Description
Nate Mercereau, Josh Johnson and Carlos Niño join forces for Openness Trio, a deeply intuitive debut grounded in improvisation, emotional honesty and sonic exploration. Each artist brings a wide palette from work with André 3000, Meshell Ndegeocello, Kamasi Washington, Shabaka and others, converging here in a space of open-ended collaboration and mutual trust.
The album features five pieces recorded at five outdoor and domestic locations across Los Angeles and Ventura County. From Ojai’s oak groves and the hills above the Topatopa Mountains, to Echo Park gardens and Topanga Canyon trees, each session captures the atmosphere of its surroundings—part studio experiment, part environmental ritual. The result is a warm, spontaneous and searching work that draws on spiritual jazz, ambient soundscapes and elemental rhythm.
