‘Step On Step’ is a compilation of previously unreleased solo recordings that visionary American producer Charles Stepney made at his Chicago home, in the years before his tragically early death in 1976. Stepney’s lush orchestral arrangements for artists like Rotary Connection, Earth, Wind & Fire and Minnie Riperton have long been go-to sources for samples from hip-hop titans like MF Doom and Kanye West. You can hear that genius in embryonic form on these twenty-three demo-style tracks.
