Formed in Sydney in the late Eighties, the avant-garde jazz trio of pianist Chris Abrahams, drummer Tony Buck and bassist Lloyd Swanton represent one of Australia’s longest-running and most adventurous bands. Bleed is their twentieth studio album as The Necks, consisting (as is very common) of one lengthy, single composition that ruminates on the beauty of vast, open and disused spaces. At once, it’s of a piece with their massive catalogue and yet different to anything they’ve done before.
