Jimmy Jules & The Nuclear Soul System cut a fierce festive funk record in 1977, fronted by Jules’ gravel-edged croon and powerhouse singer Jackie Spencer. Backed by the hard-hitting Nuclear Soul System, Xmas Done Got Funky was originally issued on Jules’ Jim Gem label before vanishing into obscurity as disco took hold. Over the years it became a holy grail for collectors, later inspiring Sharon Jones’ own holiday set. Now revived by Numero Group, this explosive seasonal oddity swaps ‘Silent Night’ for something altogether rawer, sharper, and funkier.
