The Mighty Rootsmen is a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration uniting reggae legends Toots Hibbert, Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Michael Rose, and the iconic rhythm section of Sly & Robbie, along with Mikey Chung, Robbie Lyn, Sticky Thompson, and members of the Zap Pow Horns. Brought together by producer Ralph Sall and recorded at Jamaica’s famed Anchor Studios, the project reimagines classic tracks by the likes of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, The Steve Miller Band and The Eagles through a distinctly reggae lens.
Letting intuition and musicianship guide the sessions, the album balances respect for the originals with creative reinterpretation. ‘Fly Like an Eagle’ channels Steve Miller’s soulful guitar into a loping groove, while ‘I Won’t Back Down’ features Mike Campbell’s guitar work woven seamlessly into a roots backdrop. Throughout, the sound remains deeply rooted in reggae while offering fresh takes on familiar anthems.
The Mighty Rootsmen is a celebration of Jamaica’s musical greats, blending genre-crossing classics with deep dubwise energy and a reverence for reggae’s timeless spirit.
