‘Sho Is Funky Down Here’ was the last album James Brown recorded for King Records before his switch to Polydor. It is an unusual piece of work for JB, arranged by Dave Matthews, that possesses a bluesy psychedelic feel. The title piece features a brief rap by James before launching into a long gritty, Blues drenched journey. This is the closest James Brown comes to recording a Rock album that is not a million miles away from early Funkadelic. Even so ‘Don’t Mind’ is a serious Funk number in its own right on what is an instrumental album
