This split LP brings together two sets of heavyweight instrumentals: one from California's Madlib, the other from Georgia Anne Muldrow. Side A houses the beats crafted by Madlib for Muldrow's 2012 vocal project, a rare occasion where she stepped back from the controls. Tracks like 'Seeds', 'Kali Yuga' and 'Best Love' highlight Madlib's intuitive production-earthy, loop-driven, and loose-but imbued with a spiritual edge that complements her writing without overpowering it. It's a hypnotic suite of raw soul textures, where short runtimes deepen rather than diminish impact. On the flip, Muldrow takes over with selections from her collaborations with Dudley Perkins, drawn from 'Young Spirit', 'Self Study' and 'Holy Smokes'. 'Dirty Dude' and 'Cops Still Ain't Shit' land hardest, all trunk-rattling bass and warped G-funk signifiers, while 'Violet Sky' and 'Travlin'' reveal a more meditative palette.
