Description
Recorded largely in a Reykjavik church in a single day, Ravedeath, 1972 finds Tim Hecker using pipe organ as its primary sound source, with Ben Frost assisting on engineering and performing. Sitting somewhere between live performance and meticulous studio construction, the album transforms organ tones, room ambience and distortion into dense, physical sound. Themes of musical destruction and the uneasy digital age hover around the edges, but the music needs little explanation: imposing, beautiful and often overwhelming, it remains one of Hecker’s most powerful works.
