Robert Johnson’s King of the Delta Blues Singers, Volume II gathers sixteen recordings originally issued on 78rpm, offering a broader view of his brief but influential body of work. Recorded in 1936 and 1937, these sessions helped define the Delta blues style and continue to shape generations of musicians.
Alongside staples such as ‘Sweet Home Chicago’ and ‘I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom’, this volume reveals a more relaxed, playful side to Johnson’s songwriting, contrasting with the intensity often associated with his earlier compilation. Despite a recording career lasting just seven months, his command of form, phrasing and mood remains unmatched.
