Description
Adrian Younge, Los Angeles composer, multi-instrumentalist and Black Dynamite soundtrack eminent, collided with Ali Shaheed Muhammad, founding member of A Tribe Called Quest, for The Midnight Hour in 2016: a nocturnal, soul jazz prowl with orchestral and Brazilian elements, tied together by a full live rhythm section. Later, the follow-up Lost Tapes edition emerged in 2020 - gathering material planned for a second full Midnight Hour album - but which was shelved when the pandemic halted the sessions. These cuts are comparatively beat-driven, laid-back and post-produced, for the reasons expounded above.
