Mickey & The Soul Generation’s Give Everybody Some brings together a focused run of instrumental funk recorded by the San Antonio outfit between 1969 and 1977. Rooted in the city’s rich West Side soul scene, the group fused local rhythm-and-blues traditions with the hard snap and syncopation of James Brown–influenced funk.
Led by Mickey Foster, the biracial band developed a sound built on locked-in drums, clipped guitar lines, punchy horns, and grooves that favour feel over flash. These tracks were designed for movement: taut, economical, and driven by rhythm section discipline rather than vocal hooks.
Collected here is a dozen of the band’s most distinctive recordings from their original run, including the much-loved ‘Iron Leg’, a track that exemplifies their knack for tension, repetition, and physical swing. Taken together, the set works as a concise overview of a group operating confidently within its own pocket, refining a regional funk style with clarity and purpose.
