Description
Soul Jazz Records returns with a remastered and repackaged edition of Gipsy Rhumba, a compilation exploring the origins and evolution of Spain’s gipsy rhumba movement. First released in 2012 to widespread acclaim, it remains one of the few collections outside Spain to seriously document this distinctive musical culture.
Emerging in Catalonia in the early 1960s, gipsy rhumba fused flamenco traditions with Cuban and Caribbean rhythms, Latin music and the influence of American rock & roll, creating an infectious and highly original sound. Compiled by David El Indio with sleevenotes by José Manuel Gómez (Gufi), the collection charts the story of this rich cultural exchange.
Alongside extensive notes, the release features photography by Jacques Leonard, whose images capture the communities and atmosphere surrounding the music.
