Brooklyn big band La Fantastica made their Ghetto Records debut with a fiery set of hard-driving salsa, offset by the English-language psychedelic soul of standout ‘Latin Blues’. The label was founded by Joe Bataan as a bid for independence and creative control, but its ambitious run proved brief, leaving just seven albums behind. Now-Again brings the Ghetto Records catalogue back into circulation with Bataan’s involvement, accompanied by extensive writing from Pablo Yglesias on the label’s turbulent history.
