Description
Released a year after his critically adored debut ‘Pieces Of A Man’, 1972’s ‘Free Will’ was the second album from American poet Gil Scott-Heron. With themes of personal responsibility, police brutality and Black culture’s positioning compared to mainstream America, it’s split into two distinct sections, the first side featuring largely full-band recordings (including the wonderful ‘The Get Out Of The Ghetto Blues’) and the second taking the form of a loose, proto-rap suite with a stripped-back ensemble.
