Masterminded by the trio of Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, Ry Cooder and Nick Gold, Buena Vista Social Club is both the name given to this extraordinary group and the album they recorded in 1996 at Havana’s EGREM Studios. It was clear from the atmosphere of the sessions that something special was taking place. However, no one could have predicted that it would become a worldwide phenomenon, win a Grammy and sell over 8 million copies. The acclaim elevated the artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo and Omara Portuondo) to superstar status, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders, a Tony Award-winning musical and contributed to popularizing Cuba’s rich musical heritage. Produced by Ry Cooder and executive produced by Nick Gold for World Circuit. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this 2LP set is pressed on pearlcolour vinyl and features the remastered audio and bonus tracks released for the 25th anniversary in 2021. Limited Edition.
