Drawing influence as much from Debussy as Rio de Janeiro, this was his second commercial LP following '71's Sanctuary, and heard him develop the post-samba elastics of the tones defined and explored on that record - not to mention, too, his (and Jobim's) score for the controversial Greek tragedy turned Brazil-set film, Black Orpheus. So, though he was already known for his travelling MPB salesmanship, Introspection failed to achieve the success it deserved at the time, only picking up speed post hoc.
